Burtis Ray Tarrence ,75, of Herrin IL, while surrounded by his family, went to his final resting place on March 24th at 3:36pm at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN. Burtis was born to the late Burtis Dale Tarrence and Eva Peas on December 23,1941. He was raised by his grandma in Ridgway, IL. Burtis worked at Elgin State Hospital in his younger years. Since then he worked as a laborer in many jobs from which he was retired. He was enjoying his retirement in Herrin, IL and when he was younger he enjoyed travelling to different places.
He is survived by two daughters. Sonja (Mike) Sullivan of Carmi, Jona (Carl) Zanier of Lexington, IN; two step-sons, Ted Fann and Kenny Fann; a sister Mary E. Healy; a brother Ronnie Tarrence; 10 grandchildren, Nick Voelker, Autumn (Alex) Romero, Kristina (Johnny) Johnson, Eric (Kaydee) Hutchinson, Tyana (Garrett) Alvey, Crista (Mark) Sandlin, Camren Zanier; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family members. Awaiting his arrival along side our Lord are several family members including daughter Rebecca Wooten; step-daughter Nina Wheeler; his parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles; two grandchildren, Dakota Hutchinson and Casiejo Zanier; and one great-grandchild Kyler Lee Johnson.

Graveside funeral services and burial for Burtis Tarrence, 75, of Herrin, will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Ditney Ridge Cemetery in Norris City. Memorial contributions may be made to assist with funeral expenses and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City who is in charge of arrangements.
