Bruce Meriwether, 53, lifetime resident of Carmi passed away at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday, August 15, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends. Bruce was born in Carmi on December 30, 1961, the son of Harold Ray and Donna Kay (Downen) Meriwether.
Bruce was a designer at Stein's Flowers in Carmi. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carmi where he sang in the choir and served on the church boards. Bruce was an excellent and artistic interior designer. He worked in Carmi as an interior designer and landscape designer. He had formerly been employed as an interior designer in Miami Beach, Florida, Evansville, Indiana, and Nashville, Tennessee.
Bruce is survived by his mother, Kay Meriwether; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Gary Keck; a nephew, Larrin Q. Keck all of Carmi; uncles and aunts, Jim and Verla Meriwether of Fairfield; Charles Frederick and June Downen of Merritt Island, Florida and Wayne Funkhouser of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Meriwether by only one week, grandparents, Donald and Hazel Downen and Elvis and Mildred Meriwether.
Funeral services for Bruce R. Meriwether, 53, and Rev. Harold R. Meriwether, 75, both of Carmi, will be held together on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Carmi with Rev. Randy Douglass officiating. Burial will be in Stokes Chapel Cemetery near Crossville. Friends may call on Saturday, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
Memorial gifts may be given in Bruce's name and may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Carmi, Illinois and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
