Bruce Brewer

Bruce Gilbert Brewer, 79, of Norris City, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at his residence. He was born on August 31, 1936, in Lee County, Virginia, the son of Alton and Arnie (Blevins) Brewer. Bruce married Peggy Dean Smith on May 22, 1965 and she survives. He was in the U.S. Navy and later served in the U.S. Army serving in the Special Forces where he retired as a Master Sargeant after 26 years of service and two tours in Vietnam. Bruce attended Norris City United Methodist Church and was a member of the Creasy Proctor Masonic Lodge #679 in Fayetteville, NC where he was a 32nd Mason and a Shriner.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy, of Norris City; two daughters, Connie Rainwater of Nashville, TN, and Tammy Tomasello of Waldorf, MD; two step-daughters, Barbara Boyd and Patty Wright, both of Norris City; a brother, Bert Brewer of Oak Ridge, TN; eight grandchildren including, Sara Hatfield, Angelita Stewart, and Andrea Ray; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan Ray and Ava Ray.

Bruce was preceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Mark Brewer; and two sisters, Lullie Adams and Doris Moore.

Funeral services for Bruce Brewer, 79, of Norris City, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be held on Friday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Village Cemetery in Norris City with full military honors by the Carmi VFW and Carmi American Legion.
