Bonnie R. Simms, 96 of Mt. Vernon, died on November 17, 2014 at Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born on November 1, 1918 in New Harmony, the daughter of Fred K. and Emma (Strickland) Moore. She married Bill Hogue and he preceded her in death in 1969. She then married William Lee Simms and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2004.
Mrs. Simms was a member of the Church of God Mission, where she was a Sunday School teacher for several years; member of the choir; and a member of the Doras Circle, where she also served as Past President. She belonged to the Senior Citizens Club and had served as Treasurer. She was a member of the Tenant Association of the Cloverleaf Circle and was Past Vice Secretary. She was Assistant Director for Posey County on Aging for eight years. She worked at Schmucks Cafe in Mt. Vernon for fifteen years and at Multicraft in Henderson, KY. She retired from USI as custodian.
She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Hershel E. and Shirley Moore of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law, Leona Moore of Mt. Vernon; brother-in-law, Benny Turner of Mt. Vernon; several nieces and nephews, including Becky Rush and Freda Wells of Mt. Vernon, whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James W. Moore and Elvis E. Moore; two sisters, Lorene Tron and Lois Turner.
Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 11 until the time of the service. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
