Bobby Joe Steward, age 73 of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away Friday morning August 10, 2012 in Mt. Vernon. He was born May 22, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Marshall M. and Mary (Payne) Steward, Sr. He was married to Bonnie (McCarty) Adams.
Bobby Joe had worked at B&W in Mt. Vernon for 5 years and then worked as a police officer for 23 years for the city of Mt. Vernon. He was a certified Para-Legal. Bobby was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a member of the American Legion Post in Evansville. He helped many Tri-state veterans earn their military benefits. He attended Agape Family Ministries in Mt. Vernon.
Surviving are, his wife, Bonnie; 3 sons, Bobby L. (Kathy) Steward of Toledo, OH, Kunta Steward of Mt. Vernon, and Marshall M. Steward III of Kalamazoo, MI; 3 daughters, Tonya Steward of Toledo, OH, Andrea Fields and Kathy Winkleman of FL; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Marshall M. Steward, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN and 3 sisters, Charlotte Smith of Indianapolis, IN, Geraldine Givens and Lois Henderson both of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Caprice Steward; 5 brothers, Oscar, Charles, William, Shirley and Jimmy Steward; and 1 sister, Clarava Steward.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday August 15, 2012 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
