Billie L. Franklin, 77 of Carmi and formerly of Woodlawn, TN, passed away Wednesday September 17, 2014 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL. He was born January 10, 1937 in Stoutland, MO the son of Lewis and Elizabeth (Evans) Franklin. He married Rosella Hubbard on April 10, 1973 at Nuremburg, Germany.

He was a member of the Trenton, KY Assembly of God Church and retired after 22 years as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army. He was formerly with Dabbs Realtors and served as Montgomery Christian Academy’s first principal for 5 years.

He is survived by his wife, Rosella of Carmi, IL; six children, Lewis (Nancy) Franklin of Palmyra, MO, Susan (Roy) Bean of Norris City, Rebecca (Mike) Slippey of Burbank, CA, Robin (Murl) Hicks of Carmi, IL, Billy (Jessica Givens) Franklin of Woodlawn, TN, and Roseann Franklin of Woodlawn, TN; a son-in-law, William T. Batson of Woodlawn, TN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Betty Johnson, Larry, John, Elaine and Diane Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Rachel Batson and one sister, Mary Ann Franklin.

Graveside Military Honors and funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday September 22, 2014 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Sykes Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarksville, TN. The Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of local arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity Assembly of God Church in Carmi in care of the Stendeback Family Funeral Home.
