Betty J. Gray, 85 of Carmi and formerly of Albion, passed away Saturday February 20, 2016 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born October 27, 1930 in Yale, OK the daughter of Harrison T. and Sylvia (Moser) Swingle. She married Jack Gray on December 31, 1961.
Betty had worked for many years at WADI. She was involved in starting and running the Headstart Program in Southern, IL. She enjoyed bowling and bingo and had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Albion.
She is survived by her son, John (Debbie) Gray of Grayville; daughters, Ann (Kit) Hixenbaugh of Torrance, CA and Jane (Keith) Davis of Carmi; grandchildren, Daniel Gray, Cody and Matthew Hixenbaugh, Jacob Dicus, Hope Davis and Nicole Hixenbaugh; great-grandchild, Dawson; sisters, Peggy (Bill) Usery of Carmi and Janet (Jim) Scamahorn of Newburgh, IN a sister-in-law, Dorothy Swingle of Evansville, IN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; grandson, Joshua Gray; brothers, Leonard, Francis, Bill, and Bob Swingle; and her sister, Erma Fechter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Mike Buckman officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Albion.
