Bertha L. Tuley, 100 of Mt. Vernon, died on Wednesday evening January 25, 2012 at the Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on December 2, 1911 in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Aaron and Pearl (Aldredge) Bottomley. She married John W. Tuley on December 2, 1956 and he preceded her in death on September 24, 2004.
Bertha was a member of the Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church and for many years taught Sunday School and Bible School. She worked as a Rosie the Riveter at Republic in Evansville. She worked at the Treasury Dept. in Washington, D.C., and was also a beautician for many years.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marion and Patricia Hellenberg of the United Kingdom; one daughter and son-in-law Doris Jean and Donald Weiss of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Bottomley of Hawkpoint, MO; and one sister, Laveta Blackburn of Mt. Vernon.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John Bottomley and four sisters, Fayetta Lowell, Lena McFadin, Glendola Bottomley and Ellen Uhde.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.austinfuneralhome.com.
