Bartley “Bart” Alan Brooks II, 77, of Norris City, IL, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. He was born on May 17, 1946, in Carmi, IL, the son of Leland and Madge Ruth (Taylor) Brooks. Bart proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He married Millicent Cosgrove on January 16, 1988, at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Carmi, IL, Together, Bart and Millie shared over 36 years of marriage. Bart was a member of Christian Chapel Church in McLeansboro, IL and the American Legion Indian Creek Post 109 in Norris City, IL, he had also been a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Panama City, FL. Bart was retired, having first worked in law enforcement as an officer with the Saint Louis Police Department, a Sheriff’s Deputy with the White County Sheriff’s Office and Chief at the Norris City Police Department and then spending 34 years in management at Warehouse Services Incorporated (WSI) in Mt. Vernon, IN. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time on the water. Bart was a man of faith, a loving husband and a kind and caring father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife Millie of Norris City, IL, Bart is survived by, his children, Beth Amee (Brent House) Brooks of Jefferson City, MO, Christina (Tim Keifer) Frymire of Newburgh, IN, Alycia (Greg) Cook of Norris City, IL, Bruan (Melissa) Priester of Olney, IL, Michael (Stacey Withrow) Kelly of Fairfield, IL and Paul (Megan) Kelly of Mt. Prospect, IL; Twenty-Three grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Cook of Carmi, IL and two nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
A service celebrating the life of Bart Brooks will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Christian Chapel Church, 14397 IL Highway 242, McLeansboro, IL 62859. Full Military Rites will be by members of the United States Navy and McLeansboro American Legion Post # 106. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Bart’s memory to the Youth Group at Christian Chapel Church and will be accepted by Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City or by mail at 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821 who is in charge of the arrangements
