Barry Acuff

Barry Dencil Acuff passed away December 1, 2009 in Phoenix, AZ. “Peetie” as he was favorably known, was born in Mt. Vernon, IN 60 years ago the son of the late Virgil and Mary (Kincaid) Acuff.


He lived in Phoenix for the past 22 years. As a small child he enjoyed traveling to homecomings with his Mom to Sparta, TN. He was a 1967 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He loved playing sports. He was a former employee of Babcock and Wilcox and also worked for nuclear plants as a chemical tester. “Peetie” was quiet in manner, and a loveable character with a rare sense of humor.


He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony (Little Tony) and Amy Acuff and Tarron and Laura (Mann) Acuff both of Evansville; five grandchildren, Anthony Cade, Da’Shaylin Cana, Na’Tahia Sophia, Amelia Avenaha, Tyler David and one step-grandson, Tylan McDurmon; two nephews, Walter and Alfred Kincaid; three aunts, Milburn Garrett of Mt. Vernon, IN, Sophia Tomkins and Rose Acuff both Terre Haute, and a host of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Walter (Billy Mutton) Kincaid.


Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday December 12, 2009 at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, IN with visitation from 2 p.m. until time of service. Online condolences may be left at austinfuneralhome.com
