Avis Gwaltney, 92, of Norris City passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, IL. She was born on December 11, 1929 in Omaha, IL the daughter of Nelson and Belle (Satterfield) Bryant. Avis married Ned Gwaltney on December 13, 1947 and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2006. She was a Bus Driver for the NCOE School District. Avis attended Ditney Ridge Baptist Church in Norris City, was active in White County Home Extension and volunteered her time reading at NCO Grade School and at Wabash Christian Village.
Avis is survived by her two sons, Jimmy (Betty) Gwaltney and Jack (Sherri) Gwaltney all of Norris City; a brother, Ray Dean (Deloris) Bryant of Ft. Branch, IN; four grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Buchanan, Kimberly (Leo) Tauiliili, Amanda Courson and Jordan (Kelly) Gwaltney; seven great-grandchildren, Emma and Justus Tauiliili, Lane and Bailey Buchanan, Larkin Courson and Gauge and Mia Gwaltney; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ned, three sisters, Ruth Cooley, Ruby Winter, Reba Bryant and a brother, Herdis Bryant.
Funeral services for Avis Gwaltney, 92, of Norris City will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will follow in Powell Cemetery in Norris City. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Avis' memory to Pets at Risk and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
