Austin Goff, age 83, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 4, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born September 29, 1929, in Posey County, IN, the son of Leo and Ada (Lopp) Goff.
Austin worked his early years in building private homes, gas stations, and bulk plants. He then joined the team at General Electric and retired from there. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard, serving as a Master Sergeant of the 139th Field Artillery, Battery B, in Mt. Vernon. Austin enjoyed wood working and making things for his daughters and grandchildren. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon and was president of Trustees of Old Beech Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and a sister, June Duvall.
Austin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma “Sue” Goff; his two daughters, Karen (Jim) Switzer of Clinton, MO, and Vicky (Jeff) Greenwell of New Harmony; six grandchildren, Layne (Kimberly) Edwards of Kansas City, MO, Amanda (Chad) Campbell of Indianapolis, Jessica Edwards of Monett, MO, Joel and Tyler Switzer of Mission, KS, and Daniel Greenwell, who is serving in the US Navy and stationed in Coronado, CA; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Kaelyn Edwards of Kansas City, MO; and two brothers, Alfred Goff of Pine Island, MN, and Kenneth Goff of Manhattan, KS.
Stendeback Family Funeral Home, 1330 E. Fourth St., Mt. Vernon, IN, is in charge of arrangements with visitation scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, and Wednesday, March 6, at 9:00 am until the time of funeral service at 10:00 am. Rev. Tim Ahlemeyer will serve as minister. Burial will take place in Old Beech Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of floral or other memorials, donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon, or the Farmersville Elementary School.
