Arthur Abraham Toran, age 91, of Longview, Texas, passed away March 6, 2013.
He was born May 25, 1921, in Grayville, to the parentage of Elvin and Julia
(Buckner) Toran, who preceded him in death.
He was the second child of eight children. He received his formal education in the Grayville Illinois School System. Arthur started working at the age of 17 in the coal mines of Caramel, Ill., (south of Harrisburg). He worked there until an injury forced him to leave the industry.
In 1951, he married Wilma Boyd, who preceded him to glory in 1995. To this
union, three sons and one daughter were born. One son, Salinas LaVern Toran
preceded him in death in 1989. After recovering from his injury in the mines, Arthur went on to work for the railroad near Chicago, then moved on
to Harrisburg, Ill., where he worked for New York Central Railroad for 33 years until retiring in 1982. Arthur united with the Calvary Baptist Church, under the pastorage of the
Rev. Morris Blade, where he served as a deacon until his health began to fail him. Due to his decline in health, Arthur was relocated to Longview, by
his children in March 2009. He peacefully entered eternal rest on March 6, 2013.
He joins his parents, Elvin and Julia Toran; sisters Elvine, Theresa, Edna,
Mamie, Edith, and Lola; and a brother, William.
Arthur leaves to mourn his passing one daughter, Monique (Gregory)
Waddleton of Dallas; two sons, Malcolm (Irritha) Toran of Longview, and Milton (Lisa) Toran of Arlington,
Texas; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Keith Moore will officiate the service. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville. Condolences may
