Anna Hortin

Anna Q. Hortin, 94, of Carmi passed away at 11:15 p.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Phoenix Rehab and Nursing. She was born February 5, 1920 in Wheatcroft, KY the daughter of Daron and Verna Mae (McGill) Quirey. Anna married Charles L. Hortin on June 10, 1947 and he preceded her in death on December 1, 1998. She was a homemaker and a 6th grade teacher. Anna taught music, English and reading at Enfield, Crossville and Carmi Grade Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Carmi for over 60 years. She was active in various mission groups, Bible school, Bible studies and taught children's choir. For 50 years Anna served in several musical positions including choir director, choir member and played the piano and organ. Anna was also a member of the Home Extension and Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Wellman Lim of Prattville, AL; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Karen Hortin of Carmi; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lim of Prattville, AL and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Johnson of Charlotte, NC. Anna was also preceded in death by a sister, Matilda Fortenbery.

Funeral Services for Anna Q. Hortin, 94, of Carmi will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Carmi with Rev. Glenn Toler and Rev. Luke Raczykowski. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden in Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Anna's memory to Lottie Moon c/o of First Baptist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
