Amy Apple, 90, of Carterville and formerly of Enfield, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at 8:35 a.m. in Carterville at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bill Cooper. She was born on March 24, 1922 in White County, IL, the daughter of Will and Anna (Bryant) Simmons.

Her working career was with the rationing board in Carmi and as a bookkeeper for Williams Implement Company in Carmi where she met her husband, Carleton Apple. She and Carleton were married on December 8, 1945 and together they shared 64 years of marriage until his passing on December 2, 2009.

Amy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was actively involved in farming with Carleton; supporting his civic, church, and farm organization activities.

She attended the First Christian Church in Enfield and previously the Enfield and Wesley Chapel United Methodist Churches. She was active in church events and phone ministry.

Survivors include her two daughters, Carla Cook of Winchester, IN and Kathy (Bill) Cooper of Carterville, IL; Three grandchildren, Greg (Elizabeth) Cook of Webster Grove, MO, Jana (Daniel) Jordan of Indianapolis, IN and Camron Gates of Carterville, IL; and two great grandchildren, Maggie and Elliott Cook of Webster Grove, MO to whom she is GG. She will be greatly missed.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and sister, Bess Campbell.

Funeral services for Amy Apple, 90, of Carterville and formerly of Enfield, will be Friday, May 4, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Braden Willis officiating. Burial will be at White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gideons International. Envelopes will be provided and accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
