Alonzo Boren, Jr

Longtime Carmi businessman, Alonzo Boren, Jr., 81, passed away at 6:25 a.m, Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. He was born July 5, 1932 in Mt. Carmel, IL the son of Alonzo and Ethel (Absher) Boren. Junior married Linda C. Lampley on March 27, 1955. He was a meat cutter for for over 60 years, along with being co-owner of Boren and Son's Grocery and in later years work at Chet's Market. Junior was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army Infantry and a member of New Beginning Church of God.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda; three sons, Steven L. Boren and wife Toni of Carmi, Michael Lynn Boren and wife Janet of Carmi and Mark Robin Boren and husband Paul Lambert of Evansville, IN; a sister, Maribell Fleming and husband Eugene of Poseyville, IN; a half-brother, Mack Leggett and wife Dana of Carmi; four grandchildren, Jade Boren and wife Tiffany of Mt. Vernon, IN, Tara Boren-Lasher and husband Jack of Evansville, IN, Mike Boren and wife Michelle of Carmi and Dustin Boren and wife Charlie Wolfe of Grayville; 11 great grandchildren, Carson Boren, Addie Bebout, Gavin Bebout, Grayson Boren, Blake White, Damon White, Grady Lasher, Morgan Lasher, Grant Lasher, Gannon Boren and Nyah Boren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Junior was preceded in death by a half-sister, Audrey Leggett and a half-brother, Col. Jack Leggett.

Funeral Services for Alonzo Boren, Jr., 81, of Carmi will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at New Beginning Church of God in Carmi. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi with Military Rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made in Junior's memory to Tag Youth Ministry c/o Trinity Assembly of God Church, 1600 Saunders Ave., Carmi, IL 62821 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
