Alma Berridge

Alma Rose 'Babe' Berridge was born on Sunday, Sept. 28, 1919 in Evansville, Indiana. The ' Babe ' of four daughters of grocery store owners, Oliver and Amelia (Hudson)Tafel,she graduated from Bosse Elementary and with National Honors from Bosse High School, Class of 1937. Babe married her high school homeroom sweetheart, Ed Berridge in 1941. She was a scout den mother to her three sons Randy, Steve and Rob and PTA president during their years at Washington Grade School. Following Ed's retirement from Charles Leich & Co., they retired to Florida. Besides golf and tennis, Babe's passion in retirement was to make plastic, braided rugs for relatives and friends. A thank you note from First Lady Barbara Bush serves as a lasting testament to Babe's craftmanship.
Babe is survived by 3 sons and their wives, Randy and Sharon Berridge of Orlando, FL, Steve and Sue Berridge of Virginia Beach, VA and Robert and Lonna Berridge of Mt. Vernon, IN. Alma is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Mendy Smith and husband Brett, Lynn Aitken and husband Ron, Julia Berridge, Brian Berridge and wife Mary, Edward Berridge, Michael Berridge, and Olivia, Joshua, and Caleb Berridge. There are also 5 great-grandchildren surviving. Her sister, Olive Kohmescher of San Diego also survives.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 10, 2005, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville, IN, with Rev. Donald Bernhardt officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross or Bethel United Church of Christ.
