Allen Miller

Allen W. Miller 71 of Mt. Vernon, passed away Friday May 1, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital. He was born October 31, 1943 in Robinson, IL the son of the late Bill and Lil Miller. He was married to Sharron Sue Frailey, his high school sweetheart.

Allen was a 1961 graduate of Mount Vernon High School where he played football. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, MI. At the conclusion of of his tour he joined Kellogg's as part of their research team. Over the next 37 years he worked in a variety of capacities at Kellogg's. After retiring, he worked as a financial advisor for American Express. He was the Balloon Pilot of the USA Hot Air Balloon and participated in three world championships. He was an avid Nascar, NFL (Colts) and Cardinals fan. He was a proud veteran and member of Owen Dunn Post #5.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Michael & Jennifer Miller, Amy & Rick Bulla, Damon Kaufman / Janice Hammon, Knic & Jodi Kaufman; grandchildren, Alex & Caitlin Miller, Amber & Chris Grabert, Krystal Bulla, Curtis & Christopher Kaufman; great-grandchildren, Kaydence Briody & Brookelyn Grabert; brother, Errol & Rose Miller and nephews, Stephen & Ann Miller and Jamie Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday May 4, 2015 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Owen Dunn Post #5 at the conclusion of the services. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
