Alice Lila Dial, 88, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. Alice was born on March 25, 1933, to Harry and Lila (Schultz) Von Behren. She married William Stanley Dial in 1950, and enjoyed 41 years together until his death in 1991. They had two sons, Richard S. Dial and Bradley J. Dial. Alice was a homemaker, but also had several part time jobs throughout her life after her sons were out of the house. She was a very good cook and could prepare anything that Stanley would bring home after a day of hunting or fishing. Alice was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carmi, IL. Alice loved this church and its members and was a very active member. She was an avid bridge player reaching the Master Level. She would travel to neighboring towns to play bridge. She also played bridge at the Senior Citizens’ Center. Alice was a lifetime member of the Carmi Country Club and loved playing in the couples league, ladies league, and any tournament that she could play in. She had a green thumb and loved to make her home course look beautiful any way she could. Living across the street from the golf course, she could keep her own flowers looking beautiful and keep up with the flowers at the golf course as well. Some time in her mid-life, she began knitting house slippers. Of course her own family benefitted from this talent, but soon word got out about how comfortable these house slippers were and she would knit them for anyone who asked her. You knew you were special to her if you were rewarded a gift of slippers. The only payment would be to buy her some more yarn.
Alice is survived by Richard S. Dial (Diane) and (Bradley J. Dial, deceased) Kaye Dial . Alice has five grandchildren: Jeffrey J. Dial (Yuba), Nicholas J. Dial (Diana), and Erica B. Dial, Brian C. Dial, and Pamela Dial Johnson (Deon). She was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Logan Hunt, Jaylen Johnson, Gianna Johnson, Lucile (Lucy) Dial, Penelope Dial, Camila Dial. Her brother Albert Von Behren and sister Brenda Von Behren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; parents, Harry and Lila Von Behren, her father and mother-in-law, Jacob and Carrie Dial, son Bradley J. Dial, sisters, Delores Weller, Florence Cravens.
