Albert “Al†T. Noelle, 89 of Mt. Vernon, IN died Friday evening March 28, 2008 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born on July 22, 1918, the son of Carl and Selma (Hausman) Noelle. He married Louise Ruminer on July 8, 1943 in St. Phillips Rectory and she survives.
Mr. Noelle retired from Farm Bureau Insurance where he was an Agency Manager for 27 years. He was a life member of the American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters and was a past president and director of the Evansville Chapter; was a past president of the Evansville General Agents and Managers Association; past president of the Posey County Chapter of the American Red Cross; a member and past president of the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Club; a past president and director of the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Mt. Vernon Elks; a life member of the American Legion and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Farm Bureau. He served as treasurer and on the Board of Trustees for the Posey County Community Foundation.
He served during WWII in the 38th Infantry Division as a combat Infantryman in the Pacific Theater and received a battlefield commission following action in Zig Zag Pass, Batan, Luzon, and Philippine Islands. He was awarded numerous campaign medals and ribbons, a Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After WWII, he served briefly in the Reserve Officers Association and the Indiana National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Louise of 64 years; sons Toby and wife, Jan of Kokomo, IN and Tony and companion, Joyce of Wadesville, IN; one grandson, Joshua and wife, Stacey Noelle of Noblesville, IN; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Amelia Noelle; sisters, Arline and husband James Taylor of Newburgh, IN and Joyce Becker Probstein of Madison, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Allen Thomas, and a sister, Ellen Phillips.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, IN, with private services to follow.
