Albert Truman Belford, 89, of Carmi, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:45 pm at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. Truman was born on October 21, 1926 in Golconda, IL, the son of Spencer Stuart and Elsie Mae (Bloomer) Belford.
Truman enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 and served in the Philippines during WWII. After serving 6 years for our country, he came to Carmi and married Elizabeth (Hutchison) Taylor in 1948.
Truman spent the majority of his life working in the oil & gas field. He traveled a great deal with that work including the Illinois Basin to the Gulf of Mexico, the Alaska boom in the early 60's to Michigan, California, West Virginia, Rhode Island and overseas to Singapore & Borneo... but he always returned to Carmi. He was employed by Di-Kor in 1983 when his wife Elizabeth passed away and a few months later his mother, Elsie joined Elizabeth in Heaven. Truman was a member of the First Baptist Church, VFW and the American Legion.
Truman is survived by a son Rick (Teresa) Belford of Carmi, stepson Frank (Rene') Taylor, Atlanta GA, and a stepdaughter Verla Snelling of Crawfordsville, IN.; three grandsons- Jason (Audra) Belford, Jeremy (Amy) Belford and Erik (Rebecca) Belford; six great grandchildren; Tori, Trenton, Gabriella, Gavin Belford; Molly (Joe) Bowlin and Autumn Schneider; several step grandchildren, great step grandchildren, and a nephew Stuart Oxford. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters; Thelma Oxford and Mabel Taylor, and a stepdaughter Faye Chin-Bing.
Graveside services with military rites by Carmi VFW and American Legion will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at White County Memorial Garden with WCRC Chaplain Michael Fields officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Truman's name may be made to the Wabash Christian Retirement Center Chapel. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of the arrangements.
