Agnes Ann Thomas, age 101 of Mt.Vernon, IN, died Wednesday morning February 17, 2010 at the Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 3, 1909 at Macon Co, Tennessee, the daughter of Isaac and Alice (Oliver) Russell. She married Wilford Thomas on June 27, 1927.


Agnes was well known for her handmade quilts. She also loved gardening, working in her flowers and watching the birds. She will be remembered for her patience and love of family, especially the children. She was associated with the Church of God Mission in Mt. Vernon.


She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Donald of Mt. Vernon, Charles and Vonda of Poseyville, Kenneth and Barbara of Mt.Vernon and Dennis and Kalah of New Harmony; five daughters and sons-in-laws, Wanetta and Herman Deckard of New Harmony, Shelby and Elmer Mills of Morton, IL, Bonnie and Lee Huntsman of Dunlap, IL, Carolyn and Steve Dickens of Evansville and Phyllis Clemons of Mt. Vernon; thirty eight grandchildren, sixty nine great-grandchildren and twenty four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilford; four sons, Joseph, Elvis, Glen and Virgil; and one daughter, Mary Ruth Garrett; and 11 brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank the Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care they gave to their mother.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday February 20, 2010 at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th Street, Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Leon Clark officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at austinfuneralhome.com
